1W 2019 - 2020

Miss Wortley

Welcome to 1W's homepage!

Our Year 1 adventure continues here!

What a term it has been! We have been extremely busy exploring new learning and challenging ourselves in different aspects of our curriculum. We have become more independent and resilient learners!

As mathematicians, we have enjoyed solving tricky addition and subtraction problems using a variety of methods. As scientists, we have observed seasonal change as we move from autumn to winter and investigated materials and their properties. As authors, we have retold ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers, adding our own exciting twist to the story. We also created a detailed guide to the moon, to persuade people to visit. We magpied new and interesting vocabulary to use in our writing. In geography, we have learnt about the United Kingdom and how to draw a simple map. We used atlases and learnt about compass directions. As historians, we have discovered more about Kings and Queens, the Magna Carter and the role of Parliament and the Prime Minister.

As you can see, we have been busy. All this and much more!

Please keep checking our class page and the school twitter feed to catch a glimpse of all the action. Look out for our termly newletters too!

Thank you,

Miss Wortley
