All about our Governors

All about our Board of Governors:

Darren Budd - Chair of Governors

Darren has been a Governor at Lacey Green since 2007 during which time two of his three children have attended the school. His youngest is currently in Year 6 and preparing to go to High School. Darren has had previous experience as a Governor at another Primary School in Berkshire and put himself forward as a parent Governor as he wanted to support the school that his children were attending. Darren is the Managing Director of a local company. Before moving to Wilmslow, his family lived in Germany for 5 years and it was a big change to come back to the UK. The schools are especially different because in Germany; they start at 8am and finish at 1pm and the children do not wear uniforms.

Peter Smith - Co-opted Governor

Peter’s professional career has been spent working for large consultancy firms in Law, Accountancy and Wealth Management. He set up his own business in 2001 and now employs 20 or so people.

He became involved with Lacey Green Primary School when his eldest son entered Reception in September 2001. Initially he became a volunteer on the Parent Teachers Association, but was quickly asked if he was willing to stand for election as a Governor. Peter was Chair for 9 years.  In November 2012 he stood down as Chair of the Governing Body having led the school into its current status as an Academy.

His time and energy outside school are spent on business interests and Lacrosse, which both of his sons play, for both Wilmslow and England U15s.

Alison Taylor-Stokes - Parent Governor

Alison is the founding director of ICE Arch Ltd, an architectural practice based in Wilmslow.  Alison's philosophy is embedded in the company name:  I C E = Imagine, Create, Enjoy.

Alison went to school in Derbyshire and North Wales and subsequently maintained an interest in school-age education.  After completing her A-levels, she spent a year as a tutor at Naga Tawa School, New Zealand.  She is a committee member of her secondary school’s alumni organisation – the Rydal-Penrhos Society, of which she is a past President.  Alison is currently the Secretary of the Lacey Green PTA Committee.

Alison read architecture at Plymouth and Liverpool universities, and spent a semester studying at the University of Washington, in Seattle.  She worked for architectural practices in California, Manchester, Liverpool and Wilmslow before setting up her own business.

Alison enjoys the theatre and travel.

Christian Marner - Parent Governor

Chris has been a parent governor since 2015 and has a five year old daughter Amelia in Year 1, who will hopefully be followed by his son Oliver in September 2017. He is married to Sarah who actively takes part in the PTA and they all live locally on Twinnies Road.

He wanted to join the board of governors after being thoroughly impressed with the Academy during an open evening visit before his daughter applied for a place. He would like to assist the Academy in making decisions on its future endeavours and enjoys the innovative approaches to teaching that the academy looks to achieve, always looking to improve on the solid platform it has built over the years.

Chris is a Principle Design Engineer working for a Building Services Consultancy in Salford Quays, working on major developments around the country, specialising in planning, energy and sustainability.

Chris is still active in education and is currently finishing a degree with the Open University which he hopes to complete by 2018.
