Religous Education (RE)

Religious education provokes challenging questions about the meaning and purpose of life, beliefs about faith, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human.

At Lacey Green Primary Academy, the RE curriculum aims to give the children in our care knowledge and understanding of several principal religions. It aims to be fully inclusive, exploring the beliefs, ethics, philosophy and lifestyles that Religious Education encompasses.

  • In EYFS, pupils learn about different religions through topics such as special people, celebrations and important places.
  • In Key Stage 1, the pupils focus on Christianity, Islam and Judaism.
  • In Key Stage 2, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism are taught. Other religions are more lightly embraced through their seasonal celebrations and class topic themes

Please see the 7 Year Curriculm Overview at the bottom of this page.

We use the Discovery RE scheme as the foundation for our curriculum. We believe our RE curriculum offers children opportunities for personal reflection and spiritual development.  It considers the influence of religion on individuals, families, communities and cultures. Religious education contributes dynamically to the pupil's education by provoking challenging questions about meaning and purpose in life, beliefs about God, ultimate reality, issues of life and death and issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human.

In RE, the children will learn about and from religions and worldviews in local, national and global contexts, to discover, explore and consider different answers to these questions. They learn to weigh up the value of wisdom from different sources, to develop and express their insights in response, and to agree or disagree respectfully.

We are proud of our links with the local community. We have assemblies delivered by Cheadle Mosque, Wilmslow Methodist Church, St. Bartholomew's Church in Wilmslow, and Humanists UK and we reaching out to more faith centres to help us give a wide range of coverage across the year. In addition to this, we have a strong relationship with St.Bartholemew's Church in Wilmslow who welcome the children every year for their annual Christingle and Christmas Carol services.
