Class 4J- World Book Day

Lesson: English

Class: 4J Year: 2023 - 2024

This week, pupils within Class 4J enjoyed celebrating World Book Day.

The day started with a World Book Day assembly led by Mr Burke, our English Lead. The children were encouraged to consider why we read and the impact that books and reading can have on us as individuals and as learners. The children shared their favourite books and characters.

Following this, the children started off with an ice-breaker challenge - to find answers to reading and language questions by asking every child in the class for a response. The children had great fun sharing their answers with their peers. After this, the pupils spent time reading and discussing our class reader, 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' written by the author Onjali Q.Raufe. The children learned a little more about what a 'refugee' is and were asked to consider what they would, themselves, put into a rucksack if given 10 minutes to leave their home.

During the afternoon, the children enjoyed a carousel of reading activities as well as joining in with a group game of 'Pointless' linked to our Year 4 class readers and vehicle texts.

A fabulous World Book Day once again.
