DT Week in Year 2

Class: 2F Year: 2023 - 2024

We have had the best DT week in Year 2. First we recapped some learning from Year 1, looking back at our floor book from last year to see all the different things we made. We then recapped some skills from Year 1, such as attaching different materials and using different ways to join. We even built on that learning from last year, and learnt the basic running stitch.

Our learning for this half term was based around the work of Peter Lord and David Sproxton. They created the morph and then made stop motion animation. This inspired us to create our own clay figures for a Winter snow globe. We first looked at different ideas and existing products to get inspiration for our own design. We then designed two options for our snowglobes, before choosing our final design.

For our next session, we practised making different shapes and moulds using clay. We learnt how to make a ball, square, snake, and the different figures for example a tree and a body for a penguin. We then used different tools to make marks to make our model even better.

Then it was time to get making! We used different coloured clay, and applied our learning from last lesson to make our own figure, inspired by Peter Lord and David Sproxton. Next it was time to build our snow globe. We used re-cycled jam jars, water, sparkles and glycerine to make the sparkles fall softly. Overall, we are very happy with our final products.

We then used little figures to make stop motion animations using the ipad. Just like Peter Lord and David Sproxton did!

Take a look at our wonderful DT learning, in the pictures below.

Well done Year 2!
