R2's trip to Lower Moss Wood

If you went down to the woods today you would be sure to see 30 super behaved and excited children from Lacey Green Academy!

Today was our first trip out as a class and we had so much fun at Lower Moss Wood we can't wait for our next trip out already!

The day started off with an excited journey on the big red coach, when we arrived Ray the warden showed us around the beautiful wood full of all different trees and living things. He showed us the different things which are coming through at this time of year, how to sing like the birds ("teacher, teacher, teacher"), dance like nettles and how to tell the difference between a nest and a witches broom in a tree. We followed the trail through the woods to the ducks, geese, owls and birds of prey which was fantastic.

After all the mornings acticities we refuelled with a picnic lunch a run in the woods and got ready for afternoon of pond dipping. Ray took us back through the woods with our nets and buckets at the ready to find out which creatures lurked in the pond! From our dipping the children found lots of different creatures such as pond skaters, tadpoles, water boatman, water louse and a great diving beetle.

The children and adults all had fantatsic day in the sunshine and came away brimming with new facts and big smiles on our faces. We hope you enjoy this pictures!
