Personal Development

Our Personal Development Curriculum helps to give pupils the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active, responsible and moral citizens.

Personal Development is embedded throughout our daily life at Lacey Green Primary Academy. Positive relationships, communication skills and self-image are modelled in all our day-to-day interactions with the children.  All of our children are encouraged to play a positive role in contributing to school life through their class environment, school councils, sports events, supporting charities and becoming involved in local community activities.

At Lacey Green we have carefully selected the ‘3D Dimensions’ scheme to deliver discrete lessons once a week.  The syllabus contains units relating to current issues within today’s world and society, while providing full National Curriculum coverage for all areas of PSHE.  Using this scheme ensures that knowledge is specific as well as progressive, from Reception all the way up to Year Six.

Lessons are taught through a variety of teaching and learning styles which can include role-play, storytelling and games which are extremely effective when engaging pupils.  In addition to this, elements of Personal Development are also taught subtly and embedded in other subjects such as Science, Religious Education, English and many more.  Lessons cover key concepts and skills to help us fulfil our statutory responsibility to support pupils’ PSHE education.

Our  Personal Development curriculum covers three main cores: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World.  British Values are at the heart of all units of work with our goal being to prepare children for life in modern Britain today, to help children develop and apply skills and attitudes to allow them to become full and active citizens in our wider global community.

As mentioned above, the syllabus is made up of three main cores and units of work are then broken down into the following categories: Keeping Healthy, Keeping Safe, Friendships and Relationships, Growing and Changing, Global and Environment, Economics.

We also feel that it is important to recognise themed days and weeks such as 'Anti-bullying' week and Safer Internet Day.
