Classifying plants and animals.

Lesson: Science

Year 6 have begun a new topic examining living things and their habitats.  In order to understand our environment, they set about classifying animals and plants to see what makes different speces unique.  In one exercise, each team had a unique species of bird.  The class had to categorise each species and then describe it to see whether other teams had the same one.  In a subsequent activity, groups were asked to create a key to describe the variation of different plant types.  These were difficult tasks but it helped us to understand why and how scientists need to classify different organisms.
