Camelot

Lesson: Art and design

This morning the children set off with footwork impeccable for St. Bartholomew's Church transformed into the mystical land of Camelot! Upon arriving the children were greeted to treat after treat after treat. Even as they walked through the door they were bowled over by a giant suit of armour (only a model). Firstly the children were read a story by the Reverend Green, but the fun really began after this as the children were split into small groups to go off rotating through various activities.

Most children's favourite activity was the haunted dungeon of the evil wizard Mordred. Unfortunately the photographs of the children here did not do justice to the incredibly spooky and macabre feeling the room emanated due to the darkness inside. The children ALL came out holding hands and grinning from ear to ear! To contrast with this the children were then taken to a room in the church dating from the 1300s which was filled with magic treasure.

Other favourite activities of the children were soft archery and designing shields made out of plyboard which were described by the children as "well heavy!" Another favourite activity was creating enchanted goblets, adding sequins to them to make them appear more like the Holy Grail. Between the quest down the dungeon and the sequin goblets, the children also impersonated Merlin himself by creating potion packs from sweets and creating knights in shining armour from a variety off art equipment.

I wish to extend our thanks to all the indefatigable staff at St. Barts who provided such an excellent day of fun and art based learning.
