Fact families and related facts!

Lesson: Maths

Class: 2F Year: 2025 - 2026

This week in Maths, we've been looking at fact families. Each fact family contains 3 numbers, one number is the whole and two numbers are the parts. We then had to create number sentences (both addition and subtraction) for each number family. We learnt a rhyme to help us - "You can only use your numbers in your number family".  We had to remember lots of key knowledge and used chant and rhymes to help us. 

"When we add, we add the parts"       "When we subtract we take from the whole".

We also looked at using our knowledge of addition and subtraction within ten, to help us solve number sentences with much larger numbers. For example, if know that 3 + 4 = 7 then I know that 30 + 40 = 70.
